given the plularity of religions at present time, are you suggesting that the Hindu gods, Allah, Buhhda and many more other relegions' deities are all agents of Devil? if the answer is positive, then we are in big trouble now as more than half of world's population are not Christian.
I am not a Christian, but i truly believe the existance of Christ and your One God and the power that they possess, the same goes to other relegion too. To claim there is only One God sounds not only arrogant but ignorent, don't you agree?
If i were to do a commercial for a car co. and my slogan goes '; there is only One Car, BMW'; how does it sound to your ear if you are Mercedes faithful despite the fact that you think BMW is a good car too. Share with me your perpectives......Question for true Christians who proclaim ';there is only One God';?
if we use the bible.as a basis for these answers.about god being one.then we will learn..about what the bible teaches...god being one...many to post but..i could only mention a few.....john 17:3.........deut 32:39........psalm 83:18 and many others....all them pertaining to one god........the fact that there are many who are not christians.......does not....automatically mean that christianity....is not the right faith......although not all professed christians are true christians.....the bible mentions in advance...long ago that division in faith will come.......and till the end of time until false religion is done away with........even jesus mentioned of those professing to be christians..but are not acceptable to him(matthew 7:22)let me know what you think you are also free to email me with questions t boynursela@yahoo.comQuestion for true Christians who proclaim ';there is only One God';?
Christians arent the only ones that believe in one God. Why are you only asking them? Try going to Iran and convince people that there is more than one God. They'll toss you in prison.
Anything that is worshiped can be termed a god, inasmuch as the worshiper attributes to it might greater than his own and venerates it.
The Bible makes mention of many gods (Ps 86:8; 1Co 8:5, 6), but it tells us that there is only one TRUE God (1 Kings 8:60, John 17:3) Almighty God (Rev. 1:8)
He created everything in heaven and on earth. Because he gave us life, he is the only One we should worship.鈥? Corinthians 8:5, 6; Revelation 4:11.
Hindus believe all gods are one. Different faces of a comp, lex supremecy.
Most ';Pagans'; believe all spirits have a common source, animal natural, human or divine.
There is only one GOD there are many paths and incarnations, as both Buddahism, Christianity, and Islam teach to varying degrees. Incarnations of Buddah, Trinity, and 99 names for Allah!
i commend your honesty. you drive a good point
Cars are different... because we know that in time they will rust and fall apart, I don't care who made it, or how great that car is.... Eventually, the paint will fade and the tires and windshield will need replaced.....
God is unseen.... If one can look upon it... it is certainly not God... because there is no way it could create the universe.......
Not only that.... My God is made of three ';family members';..... He has a son which we also call God.... known as the son of God.... because without him was not anything made that was made.....
But, I wont push my views upon any unless the Holy Spirit moves me or unless that person is willing to be ministered to...... If you ask, i will tell you if I know......
Your sister,
Ginger
My guess is that man creates god(s) in his own image. There may be a creator but I'm not convinced that He / She / It / Them has revealed Himself / Herself / Itself / Themseves to us mere humans.
Coffee writes: i truly believe the existance of Christ and your One God
Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
ok... think for a second:
if Jesus said that He is the ';way the truth and the light'; and no body comes to Father but through Him, was he lying or telling truth?
(a) if He was telling the truth, then there is only ONE way, and one religion is true.
(b) if He was telling lie, then ALL religions cannot be true, because Christianity would be out.
So the statement ';all religions are true'; cannot be true.
right?
There are plenty of time required to write more. I know that it is impossible to do it here. So, if you interested, (and see that there are only two actual possibilities - one religion is true or none) visit links I provided below:
~thanks~
p.s. no matter whatever one thinks thoretically there cannot be many gods. Ancient Greeks already showed it with plain reason. Just read it...
There is only One Triune God presented in the Bible - Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. God wants all people to be saved. But He does NOT force anybody. He gives people freedom to choose. PLEASE choose wisly !!!
I don't mind the oneness of a god concept.
But when they battle over ';Who gets to Be the One';
as though god were a politcal candidate or football team,
I must say it becomes irksome...
Christianity is the largest religion in the world. Catholicism alone is larger than any other religion. So, when you say, ';we are in big trouble now as more than half of the wold's population are not Christian.'; I have to ardently tell you are in the minority and always will be. It is not mere chance that has made Christianity the largest religion in the world but Divine Providence. The book of Acts says that each day they (apostles) added to their number those who were being saved.
WE TOO BELIEVE IN ONE GOD!
DEMONSTRATING EXISTENCE OF THE HOLY TRINITY:
The HOLY TRINITY is defined as:
A term used since A.D. 200 to denote the central doctrine of the Christian religion. God, who is one and unique in his infinite substance or nature, is three really distinct persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The one and only God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Yet God the Father is not God the Son, but generates the Son eternally, as the Son is eternally begotten. The Holy Spirit is neither the Father nor the Son, but a distinct person having his divine nature from the Father and Son by eternal procession. The three divine persons are co-equal, co-eternal, and consubstantial and deserve co-equal glory and adoration.
We need to know how we are created in God's image to grasp the concept of the Holy Trinity and I think your question is a good one.
To understand this better, chart it out or use a diagram of two triangles of equal proportions like the Star of David. This allows an easier understanding of the relationship between the Essence and Existence of a thing. The following words should be distinguished in the following categories: Physical, Mental, and Spiritual. These three words encompass everything in the Universe and make up the CREATIVE PROCESS to help describe the Creator, creatures, and creation.
God is spirit. He cannot be seen. If you were to examine all the creatures, the CREATOR has made a pattern emerges: angels and demons are intellectual creatures without a body; plants and animals do not have an intellect but a body and mortal soul. IT IS ONLY LIVING, HUMAN, BEINGS, that have a MIND, BODY, and SOUL. Only human beings have all three. Now, living, human, being is the existence of man. Those words describe the essence of man's mind, body, and soul. The Body is living, the Mind makes us human and distinguishing us from animals, and our Soul makes us the being that we become (good or evil).
Now, even Muslims will agree Allah is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipresent (ever present). These words describe the existence of God. So, what is the essence of God? I will hold off answering this question till the end.
Now, if you think about the existence of a person they have a triple existence: physical (body), mental (mind), and spiritual (eternal soul). In fact, whenever we create something it has all three of these parts. When we cook we have a recipe (in our mind), we gather all the raw ingredients, and we cook (don't burn it, ha ha) what it is we are making. Cooking has the physical, mental, and spiritual parts. Same with engineering or technology it has three parts: the blueprints (to convey an idea), the raw materials (physical), and the workmanship (spiritual). If something goes wrong investigators will look for a design flaw, material flaw, or faulty workmanship. THIS DEMONSTRATES CREATION HAS THREE PARTS LIKE THE CREATOR.
The claim that there is only one God is not arrogant. It is monotheism.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states,
About Judaism: ';The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant. To the Jews ';belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ';; ';for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.
About Islam: The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day.
About other non-Christian religions: All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city.
With love in Christ.
I do not agree. You actually think that several Gods got together and created us all? Rather, there is only one true God and the vast majority of mankind do not even know his name.
Psalm 83:18 says that God Almighty himself is ALONE the Most High over all the earth. Two or more gods cannot share that position.
By the way, Psalm 83:18 mentions that Name in most Bibles.
Dear Beloved in Christ, it is not the Christians that proclaim ';there is only One God';. But it is GOD Himself who proclaimed.
Please read the verse from the Holy Bible, '; And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.'; Exodus 20:1-6
This what we Christians believe and follow.

Why Do You Believe
What You Believe?
To believe has been defined as ';to accept as true, genuine, or real.'; The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrines every person's ';right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.'; This right includes the freedom ';to change his religion or belief'; if he wants to do so.
WHY, though, would anyone want to change his religion or belief? ';I have my own beliefs, and I am happy with them,'; is the commonly expressed view. Many feel that even mistaken beliefs cause little harm to anyone. Someone who believes that the earth is flat, for example, is not likely to hurt himself or anyone else. ';We should just agree to differ,'; some say. Is that always wise? Would a doctor simply agree to differ if one of his colleagues continued to believe he could go straight from handling dead bodies in a morgue to examining sick patients in a hospital ward?
When it comes to religion, mistaken beliefs have historically caused great harm. Think of the horrors that resulted when religious leaders ';inspired Christian zealots to pitiless violence'; during the so-called Holy Crusades of the Middle Ages. Or think of the modern-day ';Christian'; gunmen in a recent civil war who, ';just like medieval warriors who had saints' names on their sword hilts, taped pictures of the Virgin to their rifle butts.'; All these zealots believed that they were right. Yet, obviously in these and other religious struggles and fights, something was terribly wrong.
Why is there so much confusion and conflict? The Bible's answer is that Satan the Devil is ';misleading the entire inhabited earth.'; (Revelation 12:9; 2 Corinthians 4:4; 11:3) The apostle Paul warned that many religious people would, sadly, be ';doomed to perish'; because they would be deceived by Satan, who would ';produce miracles and wonders calculated to deceive.'; Such ones, said Paul, would ';shut their minds to the love of truth which could have saved them'; and would thus be 'deluded into believing what is a lie.' (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12,) How can you minimize the possibility of believing a lie? Why, in fact, do you believe the way you do?
Perhaps you have been brought up in the beliefs of your family. That may well be a good thing. God wants parents to teach their children. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; 11:18-21) The young man Timothy, for example, benefited greatly from listening to his mother and grandmother. (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:14, 15) The Scriptures encourage respect for what parents believe. (Proverbs 1:8; Ephesians 6:1) But did your Creator mean for you to believe things simply because your parents believe them? Unthinking adherence to what previous generations believed and did can, in fact, be dangerous.-Psalm 78:8; Amos 2:4.
A Samaritan woman who met Jesus Christ had been brought up to believe in her Samaritan religion. (John 4:20) Jesus respected her freedom to choose what she wanted to believe, but he also pointed out to her: ';You worship what you do not know.'; Many of her religious beliefs were, in fact, mistaken, and he told her that she would have to make changes in her beliefs if she was going to worship God acceptably-';with spirit and truth.'; Rather than cling to what were no doubt cherished beliefs, she and others like her would, in time, have to become ';obedient to the faith'; revealed through Jesus Christ.-John 4:21-24, 39-41; Acts 6:7.
Many teachers and authorities in specialized fields of knowledge deserve great respect. Yet, history is littered with examples of renowned teachers who were absolutely wrong. For example, regarding two books on scientific matters written by Greek philosopher Aristotle, historian Bertrand Russell stated that ';hardly a sentence in either can be accepted in the light of modern science.'; Even modern-day authorities often get things drastically wrong. ';Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible,'; was the confident assertion of British scientist Lord Kelvin in 1895. A wise person, therefore, does not blindly believe that something is true simply because some authoritative teacher says it is.-Psalm 146:3.
The same caution is needed when it comes to religious education. The apostle Paul was well-educated by his religious teachers and was extremely ';zealous for the traditions of [his] fathers.'; His zeal for the traditional beliefs of his ancestors, however, actually created problems for him. It led to his ';persecuting the congregation of God and devastating it.'; (Galatians 1:13, 14; John 16:2, 3) Worse still, for a long time, Paul kept ';kicking against the goads,'; resisting the influences that should have led him to believe in Jesus Christ. It required a dramatic intervention by Jesus himself to move Paul to adjust his beliefs.-Acts 9:1-6; 26:14.
Maybe the media have greatly influenced your beliefs. Most people are glad that there is freedom of speech in the media, giving them access to information that can be useful. However, there are powerful forces that can and frequently do manipulate the media. What is often presented is biased information that can insidiously affect your thinking.
In addition, to appeal to or to attract a larger audience, the media tend to give publicity to what is sensational and unconventional. What could hardly be said or printed for public consumption just a few years ago has become commonplace today. Slowly but surely, established standards of behavior are attacked and whittled away. People's thinking is gradually becoming distorted. They begin to believe that ';good is bad and bad is good.';-Isaiah 5:20; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10.
Building on the ideas and philosophies of men is like building on sand. (Matthew 7:26; 1 Corinthians 1:19, 20) On what, then, can you confidently base your beliefs? Since God has given you intellectual capacity to investigate the world around you and to ask questions concerning spiritual matters, does it not make sense that he would also provide the means to get accurate answers to your questions? (1 John 5:20) Yes, of course he would! How, though, can you establish what is true, genuine, or real in matters of worship? I have no hesitation in saying that God's Word, the Bible, provides the only basis for doing this.-John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17.
';But wait,'; someone will say, ';is it not the very ones who have the Bible who have caused the most conflict and confusion in world affairs?'; Well, it is true that religious leaders who claim to follow the Bible have produced many confusing and conflicting ideas. This is because they have not, in fact, based their beliefs on the Bible. The apostle Peter describes them as ';false prophets'; and ';false teachers'; who would create ';destructive sects.'; As a consequence of their activities, says Peter, ';the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively.'; (2 Peter 2:1, 2) Still, writes Peter, ';we have the prophetic word made more sure; and you are doing well in paying attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place.';-2 Peter 1:19; Psalm 119:105.
The Bible encourages us to check our beliefs against what it teaches. (1 John 4:1) Millions of readers of this magazine can testify that doing so has added purpose and stability to their lives. So be like the noble-minded Beroeans. 'Carefully examine the Scriptures daily' before you decide what to believe. (Acts 17:11) Jehovah's Witnesses will be happy to help you to do this. Of course, it is your decision as to what you want to believe. However, it is the course of wisdom to make sure that your beliefs are shaped, not by human wisdom and desires, but, rather, by God's revealed Word of truth.-1 Thessalonians 2:13; 5:21.
God says he is the only god. Who am I to argue with Him.
Valid question. I do believe in only one God - Christ.
Believing in Christ goes along with His teachings - you shall only have one God. Seems shellfish, but once I truly grew to know Christ for who and what He is, I don't want it any other way!
Personally I think everyone is seeking for something greater than themselves - it gives purpose to one's life. To me that explains the existence of all kinds of gods. So I don't necessarily view other gods as from the devil, but just as something that is man made.
Surely not everyone agrees with Christians in believing in our God and Him alone - but that is what makes us true believers and devoting once life to Him and Him alone comes as second nature.
this question may, as a matter of fact, come down to a single word in the jewish text being mistranslated. Consider Exodus 20 1-3, 'I AM the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt; you shall have no other gods BEFORE me' (my capitals). Now, most people and some bible translators put 'no other gods BESIDES me there, which means you can believe in only one god. But, no other gods BEFORE me simply means that Yahweh must be recognised as the principle god, hence allowing for a host of other deities to be worshipped simultaneously. Which the jews themselves did, freely worshipping gods like Ishtar and Baal. What we have today is a corrupted text which is the result of a small sect of jews, namely the Yahweh cult, which, for most of it's history, existed on the fringe of jewish theological life, but, gained supremacy in the struggle after teh temple was destroyed. Be careful what you read and how you read it. Be Enlightened!
Spell god backwards!
The muslimic and christian god is the same, the coran is based on the bible.
I would smash the BMW infidels! Damn their lies and efficient engineering! Repent your autotheistic ways or suffer an eternity in the parking garage of HELL!
Irrespective of how it sounds, you must proclaim what you know is true.
You can not be a Christian and believe that there are other gods, or think that whatever people believe is right for them.
Your analogy about cars is horrible. We can prove to everyone in the world that there is more than one car. Nobody will ever prove that there is only one car. Nobody can prove there is only one God, but nobody can say there is more than one god.
Would it be horrible for someone to say that there is only one universe? Would they be ignorant? arrogant?
If you believe in God and who He is, then you would be ignorant to believe there are other gods.
You're confused. You think that Christianity is the only form of Monotheism? You listed Allah as if Islam is Polytheistic. Hate to break it to you but the 3 largest religions on Earth believe in one God.
Now who's the ignorant one?
According to Christians, there is only one God, and as for other gods, they simply do not exist because God has revealed Himself to them (Christians)and the others gods have not plus they do not have any power. This one God is a jealous God who knows that He is the only God and does not like to see people believing in nothings. My answer serves to inform you but not to convince you, believe what you want.
I'm sorry that you think my belief is arrogant. I believe that there is only one God. If I said I believe there is only one me, it wouldn't make me arrogant or ignorant, would it? There is only one me. That's just the way it is. However, I will say that my belief is based on more than ';just the way it is.'; I feel in the bottom of my soul that what i believe is correct (as I'm sure most people do--or they would change their minds).
As for Christians being the minority...up until a certain point in history a vast majority of people believed that the earth was flat. Turned out, they were all wrong.
I can see how you might think that the statement ';there is only one God'; by Christians (and Jews) could seem arrogant. But we get that statement from the Bible, which to us Christians is the sole authority for faith and practice. We beleive that the Bible is God's word and self-revelation to humankind and is the truth. So, beleiving that there is only One God and that He is the God of the Bible is not arrogance on our part - it is simply acceptance of what God has declared about Himself. We did ot ';invent'; it - the Scriptures declare it. God is not a matter of Opionion, my freind; but of revelation.
See God is a Person. Like all personas (you included) He will have to reveal something about Himself for others (us) to know what He is like - short of actually meeting Him face to face.
Have you met the Queen of England? Suppose you have never met her - but I have. I tell you what she's like. Since I've met her, your natural inclination would be to beleive what I said to you about her.
Moses according to his own testimony spoke to God ';face to face.'; He tells us what He is like. My natural inclinaton is to beleive him.
See its not a matter of OPINION, but a matter of AUTHORITY too. If you want to beleive in hundred so gods, then who is your authority? By whatdo you base your beleif on? Becuase ';it feels right';? You can see how tenuus such a position is.
If belief in one or two or several gods is a matter of OPINION, then yeah - sure - believing that the God of your OPINION is the one true god is arrogance.
My confidence in One God is not based on my own opinion; rather, it is based on my surce of authority - the Inspired Word of God himself: the Bible.
